Buena Vista, seat of Chaffee County, is in south central Colorado on the east slope of the Continental Divide at the junction of Cottonwood Creek and the Arkansas River. Elevations range from 6,900 to 14,400 feet along the Divide. We have more peaks over 14,000 feet than anywhere else in Colorado! We are served by State Highway 306 and US Highway 24, about 137 miles from Denver.

Buena Vista is one of the main gateways to recreation in the 1,109,782-acre San Isabel National Forest and the 148-mile-long Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area.

The Arkansas River provides terrific entertainment such as kayaking, whitewater rafting and gold medal fishing. Some of the spring and summer activities include hiking, camping, mountain biking, horseback riding, off-road exploring and golf.
The area is also well known for its big game hunting. When the snow falls the ski season starts.
